Jessie James Decker........................Born Jessica Rose James, Decker's somewhat exotic birthplace was a product of her being raised in a military family. Decker's family moved to Louisiana when she was nine. Decker then won a local talent competition for her rendition "I Want to Be a Cowboy's Sweetheart" by Patsy Montana. Decker had relocated to Georgia by the time she reached the age of 15. She'd started writing songs, and she was making regular trips to Nashville as she toured the offices of record labels and music publishers in search of an agreement. Her songs were being released to record companies as well as other artists by a Big Yellow Dog Records agent at the age of 17. The decks were then sent through to L.A. Reid by Mercury Records President David Massey, who was the head for Island/Def Jam. Reid then signed Decker to a recording deal. Her debut album, a self-titled effort under the moniker Jessie James arrived in August 2009. Jessie James had a moderately success debut record. Wanted, a song from the album reached the Top 40 singles chart. Decker has always considered herself as a singer from the country genre however, the album's promotion and production was geared towards an audience more influenced by pop. Her music came under increased scrutinization following the release in the form of two hits. The next song, Boys in the Summer featured a rural feel. Decker's sophomore album, which was announced with the title Daughter of a Gypsy or Sweet American Dreams was shelved by Mercury and, after the release of three singles failed on the country charts Decker was let go of her contract.
