Nadia Comaneci (Gheorghe Gheorghiu Dej Now Onesti) Romanian Gymnast born on November 12, 1961. She was the first Romanian to receive a score of 10 in the Olympic event. Bela Karolyi was later Romanian Gymnastics Coach discovered Comaneci when she was just seven years old. She first competed in the national junior championships of 1969, finishing 13th. She took the title in the year 1970. In 1972, during a meet of communist countries junior athletes before the Olympics she took home three medals of gold. After that, in 1973 and 1974 she won the overall junior champion. She took home four gold medals and one silver in her senior debut international competition, held in 1975. This was her first time she had competed as a senior. In 1976, she became the first person in the world to utilize a reversed double salto in order to take off parallel bars.
